Day 1: Arrival in Jaisalmer and Sightseeing

Morning: Arrival in Jaisalmer

  • Start your journey by arriving in the enchanting city of Jaisalmer. You can reach Jaisalmer either by train, bus, or flight. If arriving by flight, Jaisalmer has a domestic airport with limited connectivity, or you can land in Jodhpur and take a scenic road trip to Jaisalmer (around 5-6 hours).
  • Upon arrival in Jaisalmer, check into your hotel or desert camp. Freshen up and relax for a bit, getting ready to explore the city.

Late Morning: Visit Jaisalmer Fort – The Sonar Quila

  • Your adventure in Jaisalmer starts with the famous Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fort, built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal, stands as one of the few living forts in the world, with a vibrant community residing within its golden walls.
  • As you walk through the fort’s narrow streets, you will be transported back in time. Explore its magnificent palaces, temples, and intricate architecture. Make sure to visit the Raj Mahal (Royal Palace) and the Jain Temples, each showcasing stunning craftsmanship with intricate stone carvings.
  • Don’t forget to visit Laxminath Temple, a popular Hindu temple within the fort complex, offering spiritual solace amidst your sightseeing.

Afternoon: Explore Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli

  • After exploring the fort, head over to Patwon Ki Haveli, one of the largest and most elaborately designed havelis in Jaisalmer. This cluster of five havelis, built by a wealthy merchant, is renowned for its beautifully carved facades and intricate balconies. The haveli is a stunning example of fine craftsmanship and serves as a museum today, showcasing antiques, paintings, and historical artifacts.
  • Thereafter, visit Nathmal Ki Haveli, another stunning example of Rajasthani architecture. The history of this Haveli is exciting as this haveli was built by two brothers in the late 19th century, and its symmetrical design showcases their exceptional skill. The intricate carvings and the balance between the two wings of the haveli are mesmerizing, offering a glimpse of the city’s rich heritage.

Evening: Sunset at Gadisar Lake

  • As the afternoon winds down, head to Gadisar Lake, a peaceful spot that offers stunning views of the sunset. It was built by Maharawal Gadsi Singh in the 14th century, the lake is surrounded by temples, ghats, and cenotaphs.
  • You can also enjoy a boat ride on the lake, taking in the tranquil atmosphere and watching the golden hues of the setting sun reflecting off the water.
  • This spot is perfect for photographers, offering picture-perfect views of the surroundings. You will be provided enough time to capture the moments.

Night: Cultural Evening and Overnight in Desert Camp

  • After the day’s exploration, it’s time to experience the magic of the Thar Desert. Head to the Sam Sand Dunes, located around 40 km from Jaisalmer city. These vast, rolling sand dunes offer a quintessential desert experience.
  • Check into your desert camp and get ready for an exciting cultural evening. Most camps organize Rajasthani folk music and dance performances, which you can enjoy under the starry sky. Sit by the campfire, savor the traditional Rajasthani cuisine, and immerse yourself in the cultural vibrancy of the region.
  • After the cultural performance, you can either retire to your cozy tents for the night or, for the more adventurous, enjoy stargazing in the open desert. The clear desert sky offers a magnificent view of the stars, making for an unforgettable night.

Day 2: Desert Safari and Departure

Morning: Sunrise Camel Safari at Sam Sand Dunes

  • Begin your second day with an early morning Camel Safari across the Sam Sand Dunes. The sight of the sun rising over the endless desert is truly mesmerizing, and a camel ride offers a serene way to experience the beauty of the Thar Desert.
  • You can enjoy the peaceful ambiance as you ride through the dunes, taking in the golden hues of the sand and the quiet of the desert.

Late Morning: Jeep Safari and Desert Exploration

  • After your visit to the camel safari, you can opt for a Jeep Safari, which will take you deeper into the desert. This adventure offers a thrilling way to explore the vast Thar Desert, with the jeeps zooming over the undulating sand dunes. The adrenaline rush is perfect for adventure enthusiasts!
  • During the jeep safari, you can visit some remote desert villages, interacting with the local people and getting a glimpse of their traditional way of life. This offers a unique cultural experience, allowing you to see a side of Rajasthan that is often overlooked by tourists.
  • Visit nearby historical sites like the Kuldhara Village, an abandoned village with a mysterious past. It is said that the village was abandoned overnight by its residents, and today, it stands as a haunting reminder of its rich history.

Late Morning: Breakfast and Return to Jaisalmer City

  • After your desert safari, head back to your camp for a hearty breakfast. You can relax for a while, soaking in the peaceful desert ambiance before checking out of your camp.
  • Head back to Jaisalmer city, where you can explore some more sights before your departure. You may want to visit the local markets to buy souvenirs like Rajasthani textiles, handicrafts, or jewelry.

Afternoon: Explore Bada Bagh and Vyas Chhatri

  • Before you leave Jaisalmer, visit Bada Bagh, a beautiful garden complex located on the outskirts of the city. The garden is home to cenotaphs (chhatris) of Jaisalmer’s royal family. These sandstone structures, set against the backdrop of the golden desert, make for a peaceful and photogenic spot.
  • Another must-visit spot is Vyas Chhatri, which serves as a memorial to the famous sage Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata. The intricately carved chhatris here are a tribute to the architects of Jaisalmer and offer a peaceful place to unwind while overlooking the city.

Evening: Departure from Jaisalmer

  • As your 1 Night 2 Days trip to Jaisalmer comes to an end, it’s time to head back to the railway station, bus stand, or airport for your departure. If you have time before your departure, you can enjoy some last-minute shopping at Jaisalmer’s local markets, picking up beautiful textiles, jewelry, or souvenirs as a memory of your trip.
